Wiam Wahhab to “Spot Shot”:
- Donald Trump’s statements have become “a joke.” Sometimes you feel like he is empty and constantly needs praise and flattery—just like Arab leaders.
- Lebanon is in serious danger, and it is no longer possible to govern it under the current system. An alternative must be found, and there’s no problem with a “Taif Agreement No. 2.”
- A Hezbollah victory would lead to “using that victory internally,” just as the party’s opponents did against it in the previous war.
- The U.S. might reach an agreement with Iranian proxies, including Hezbollah, which could offer it “calm” on the border—and that’s all Tel Aviv wants.
- I fear this war may end with an Iranian–American deal through which Tehran would once again be appointed as a “policeman over the Gulf states,” and the Arabs would pay the price.
- I look at Arabs with a “sense of inferiority.” They believe money creates everything, but this war proved otherwise.
- Today, I am “lost.” I don’t see any project that represents me. I don’t know how to protect Sweida. What project do the Arabs have? How do I protect Lebanon? I am lost, and the Israeli project does not protect me.
- There are efforts and Syrian envoys trying to arrange a meeting with President Ahmad al-Sharaa, but I will not accept before the issue of Sweida is resolved. I will not go without the approval of Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif and Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri.
- The U.S. is convinced that Iran now possesses missiles with nuclear warheads.
- There is American–Israeli concern that Hezbollah may possess chemical weapons such as sarin gas. I do not rule this out, and that all the weapons that were in Syria are now in Hezbollah’s possession.
- If Iran decides after the war to restore its “prestige,” it must head toward Syria. Iran cannot regain its position in the region without Damascus.
