The Media Secretariat of the Arab Unification Party issues an official and urgent appeal to all regulatory bodies responsible for monitoring the quality and safety of water and food in Lebanon—most notably the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Environment, the Industrial Research Institute, and the Agricultural Research Center. This appeal comes in light of the pressing need to strengthen the principle of transparency, ensure the health and safety of citizens, and enhance public trust in the regulatory and technical procedures followed by the competent authorities in this vital field.
The Arab Unification Party affirms that water and food are among the most critical public health factors and form the foundation for securing a decent life for citizens. Based on this conviction, we call on the relevant authorities to intensify laboratory testing on all types of bottled and imported water, without exception or discrimination, and to provide clear and transparent reports that allow citizens direct and immediate access to the results. Early and transparent disclosure of laboratory findings strengthens institutional credibility and prevents any form of data manipulation or politicization that may target specific companies or interests at the expense of public health.
We also stress the importance of conducting comprehensive testing on all bottled water products available in the Lebanese market, including mineral water, bottled drinking water, and water intended for industrial and agricultural use, to ensure compliance with health specifications and international standards. In this context, we urge the activation of regular and continuous monitoring, accompanied by the periodic and consistent publication of test results, so that citizens remain the central link in the food and water safety system.
As part of our public responsibility, we emphasize that the publication of accurate and balanced data should not be limited to one party or company alone. The practice by some entities or media outlets of publishing data related to a single company—without the involvement of relevant regulatory bodies—risks creating unjustified confusion and chaos, ultimately leading to a loss of trust in public institutions. This, in turn, harms both national interests and the well-being of the public. Hence, we stress the need for accuracy and objectivity in publishing any statement or test results related to water or food. Such publications should be based solely on official data and verified technical findings, far from any attempt at media or political exploitation.
In conclusion, the Media Secretariat of the Arab Unification Party reaffirms that the health of citizens is a responsibility that must be taken seriously and transparently by official institutions. Civil society and free media remain essential partners in monitoring and achieving this goal. We look forward to constructive and serious cooperation among all concerned bodies to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all the people of Lebanon and to put an end to any negligence or manipulation that threatens the future and safety of the next generations.
We also emphasize the need to activate the role of the Emergency Committee on Health and Public Safety and for the relevant authorities to be prepared to take necessary actions, with full commitment to the highest standards of integrity and transparency in dealing with water and food-related matters, in order to safeguard citizens’ health and dignity.
