A researcher from Al Jazeera’s program “What Was Hidden Is Greater” revealed the names of Israeli military personnel allegedly involved in the killing of Palestinian girl Hind Rajab and her family in Gaza, showing photos of the officers and soldiers responsible. Among those named were Benny Aharon, commander of the 401st Brigade, and Daniel Ella, commander of the 52nd Battalion, as well as other soldiers such as Itai Shukerkov.
Hind Rajab was a five-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed by the Israeli army along with six of her relatives when the car they had taken refuge in was struck southwest of Gaza City on January 29, 2024.
The findings follow efforts by the Hind Rajab Foundation, a rights organization that filed a complaint against Israeli officials with the International Criminal Court, seeking to hold them accountable for war crimes. Natasha Brack expressed her belief that the investigation will help bring international cases against those involved. The Israeli side has not commented so far.
These events highlight continued Israeli violations against Palestinians during the assault on Gaza, which resulted in hundreds of deaths and widespread destruction.
Israel began, on October 8, 2023, what is described here as a genocidal war in the Gaza Strip with U.S. support that lasted two years, reportedly killing 68,216 Palestinians, wounding 170,361 others, and destroying 90 percent of the sector’s infrastructure.
The war ended with a ceasefire that took effect on October 10; the report says Tel Aviv violated it 80 times.
The agreement was based on a plan attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump that, in addition to ending the war, called for a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, an exchange of prisoners, and immediate entry of aid into the Strip.
