The Media Department of the Arab Unification Party issued the following statement:
In light of the dangerous statements made by the individual known as Khaldoun Areimat—which lack the slightest degree of religious or national responsibility—we affirm our total rejection of this rhetoric. His speech is filled with incitement, accusations of treason, and the deliberate distortion of facts; it bears no relation to the spirit of religion or the ethics of scholars, but rather expresses a deep-seated hatred disguised in the garb of preaching and piety.
What has been issued by Areimat—this petty informant, from the days of Syrian intelligence until today—does not resemble the speech of clergymen. It does not reflect the message of Islam, which is built on wisdom and fair preaching. Instead, it brings to mind the methods of the “Age of Ignorance” (Jahiliyyah), spreading sedition and sowing malice among the people of one nation.
We are the descendants of those who supported the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (PBUH); the descendants of Salman the Persian, of whom the Prophet said: “Salman is one of us, the People of the House.” We take pride in a history of standing with the Prophethood and rejecting takfirism, injustice, and tyranny. We are not among those who inherited evil tongues and hateful hearts from Abu Lahab and the “Carrier of the Wood,” nor are we among those driven by dark interests to outbid the honorable.
True men of religion, Areimat, are those who reconcile people and call for unity and mercy, not for discord and division. They are those who plant hope, honesty, and justice—not those who make a living off the rhetoric of strife and blood.
Accordingly, we hold the aforementioned Areimat responsible for the consequences of his words. We affirm that the word is a sacred trust, and that the Lebanese people, in all their components, are too intelligent to be deceived by voices attempting to push them toward fragmentation and division.
